The founders of Ansonia Music Outreach were inspired by the Community Service Fellowship Program at The Juilliard School, where as students, they were given similar work experiences in exchange for educational stipends. After graduation, as professional musicians, they formed our resident chamber music group, the Phoenix Ensemble, created to carry out the work of Ansonia Music Outreach. Our Phoenix Ensemble includes some of the finest professional freelance musicians in New York City, who work in ensembles such as the Orchestra of St. Lukes, Metropolitan Opera, New York Philharmonic, and Broadway productions.
Our mission is to help establish the musical arts as a more essential and valuable experience in the lives of the general public.
With an innovative integration of the arts into the community, and an interactive and participatory approach, we inspire a new American audience for the musical arts. We are not only focused on reaching out to young audiences. Arts education and audience building efforts can be just as effective when directed towards adults and seniors. We have found that there is great value in establishing a long-term and personal relationship with our audiences, embedding our musicians in a community over a period of years. In this time, our audiences get to know our musicians by their first name, and become more relaxed and comfortable exploring and discovering great music and receiving its benefits. Since 1992, we have brought the gift of music to the underserved and to communities in need, enriching the lives of thousands, and inspiring many who previously were unaware of the positive influence the arts can make in their lives.
